Casting Reels

How come some saltwater fishing reels don't have line guides (casting reels)?
Some of the saltwater casting reels don't have line guides.i've seen one up close so i don't know.How do they get the line on evenly without a guide?
If you're talking about a surf rod. you dont need them. all they're used for is to lob a hookset out past the breaker waves.
