what are the best type of hooks for carp fishing?
just wondering if you guys can give me any tips for the best type of hooks to be using when carp fishing?i had 5 carp yesterday all around the 2lb mark,but i lost a 12lber right on the bank!!!i am convinced it was because of the hook.i have only started coarse fishing this week,so far after three 5 hour sessions i have caught 7 and lost 4.
Gamakatsu G Carp Method hooks are the best (in my opinion), if you can lay your hands on them. This time of year, like Paul R says, use small hooks and thinner lines, like, size 6,8,10 hooks, 8-10 lb lines. You should remember though that you should always match the size of the hook to the size of the bait. Too small a hook may prevent a solid hook up if your bait is disproportionately large. I agree with Paul that hair rigs are usually safer in terms of hooking a fish.
