Red colored hooks for fishing ?
I have some crankbaits with red hooks on them, they refer to it as a bleeding fish style of bait. It got me interested in finding out more about it. I have read that having Red colored hooks on your lure presents a wounded fish to other fish. One article stated that it imitates feeding fish because when fish feed they say there gills puff out and the red of inside of the gills shows a lot. ...... Now they make red fishing line too because it is said that red is the first color to disappear under water.
What do you think about all this on red fishing hooks ? I myself am unsure if I believe it about the representing the bleeding fish. If red is the first color to disappear under water then basically the benefit of a red hook would be so the fish don't see the hooks as visible and more so see the bait itself. Then again if red disappears under water why would anyone use a red colored lure ?
Well red is a solid color adds a nice look to the presentation of any lure and doesn't disappear as much as you would think. I actually prefer a red hook on my flukes and crank baits myself. Works great with white. And also if you're thinking about it the water coloration and clarity can take effect. If you have pretty good water clarity the red would be good. But, I just have to say I have some crank baits with red hooks and red lures they delivered results (the shimmer of red in the water is fantastic) I don't think you can go wrong with the red either way though.
